15-year-old dies in Sheffield school stabbing

In Sheffield, England, a 15-year-old boy has died following a stabbing at a secondary school. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Another 15-year-old boy has been arrested. According to British media, the principal stated that both boys attended the same school.

Emergency services were alerted shortly after 1 PM and found the student severely injured. The circumstances leading up to the stabbing remain unclear.

The mayor of South Yorkshire, which includes Sheffield, emphasized that any knife violence incident is one too many, noting the devastating consequences, as seen today. Catherine McKinnell, the official responsible for schools in the UK government, expressed her distress in the House of Commons, stating, “I’m heartbroken.

Nothing is more important than the safety of our children.” Prime Minister Starmer described it as a “terrible stabbing” and expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, both as a leader and father. Following the incident, the secondary school, which has over a thousand students, was locked down.

British media reported it was the second lockdown within a week, following threats of violence among students last Wednesday. The police did not comment on these earlier threats during a press conference, stating that the investigation is still at an early stage.

Knife violence is a growing issue in the UK, with stabbing incidents rising by nearly 80 percent since 2015.
