Following the broadcast of “Opsporing Verzocht” yesterday, the police received 120 additional tips regarding the theft of Romanian archaeological treasures from the Drents Museum in Assen. It remains unclear whether any of the new information will lead to the perpetrators or the stolen items.
The police expressed their appreciation on X for the public’s overwhelming support and information sharing. These tips are in addition to over fifty that were received after the theft this past weekend.
During the broadcast, the police mentioned that the perpetrators of the violent burglary and art theft might be from North Holland, based on traces found around the Drents Museum. Last Saturday night, unknown individuals blew up the entrance of the Drents Museum and stole several historical treasures from Romania within minutes.
Among these items was a helmet made of nearly pure gold. The archaeological masterpieces had been loaned by the National History Museum in Bucharest and were on display in Assen.
The theft has caused significant concern in Romania, leading to the dismissal of the director of the National History Museum, and Romania is considering filing a compensation claim against the Drents Museum. Romanians are dissatisfied with the security measures for their national heritage.
